This past semester I was blessed to take part in a semester-long trip to the Middle East. We studied and learned while traveling through Egypt, Jordan, Palestine and Israel from January to April. It was an incredible experience, and every week I would like to share some thoughts or reflections on my time there.
While I didn’t spend time in the culture of Afghanistan I did live and experience Middle Eastern culture for four months. I fully understand how Dan Terry fell in love with the people and the culture. The people especially are super outgoing and extremely welcoming. The hospitality of that culture is something we don’t experience a lot of in our own culture. We were always warmly welcomed everywhere we went, and made to feel very much at home.
Add to that is the people as a whole are very friendly and engaging. They are quick to laugh and joke, and their friendliness goes hand in hand with their hospitality and the feeling of being welcomed. I could write for days about the people of the Middle East alone so its no surprise to me that Dan spent so much of his time immersed in Middle Eastern culture and most importantly, with the people of that culture.
